Second Annual Poetry Writing Competition for Area High School Students and Awards Recital Scheduled

The Friends of the Library organization is again sponsoring a poetry writing contest for area high school students in grades 9-12.

The contest last year was one of the group's most successful projects ever.  Over 100 students and parents attended the recital to hear the winning poets read their poetry.

English Teachers form Terrell County High School and Terrell Academy are again cooperating effort by having their students participate in a poetry writing unit at school.

There will be five finalist chosen from each grade.

These twenty students will be invited to attend the recital and read their poems to the audience.

Certificates will be presented to all the winners and a cash prize will be awarded to the top poem in each grade.

The Recital is scheduled for 6:30 in the Carnegie Meeting Room at the Library on April 26.  Area residents are invited to attend this special event.

Refreshments will be provided by the Friends to all who attend.

Friends Donate $1500 To Purchase Audio Tapes for the Library

One of the most popular checkout items at the library is audio tapes.

Because there is no budgeted money for the library's audio collection, all of the tapes must be purchased with gift money.

Cargill Industries provided the seed money for the tape collection, and this is the second time the Friends group has added to it.

This past month over 300 tapes have circulated.
